Photographers Squared - A Few Words About Why I'm So Passionate

by Mindy Veissid

I want to share with you a few words about why I’m so passionate about our Kickstarter project. As I’ve been teaching the Art of Intuitive Photography for a few years now, I see how important it is for each of us to express ourselves in our own unique way. We are not robots – we have a heart and soul that guides us to see and feel what we want/should photograph. This project will show just that – we will create a coffee table book to illustrate that everyone may see the same subject, but can capture it in their own unique way. My color photo and RA’s b&w photo will be side-by-side depicting the same subject but as you can imagine, they will be very different (as seen in the images below).

Not only will we be true to ourselves and our style, we will also be going to local high schools to speak to teens to help them understand and see that it’s ok to be authentic and that following your passion can come true with a lot of hard work and love in what you believe in.

If you feel compelled to back our project, we would be extremely grateful. No amount is too little or too big (you can give as little as $1). You will also see that we offer some great rewards.

This is truly a dream of mine, and I thank you for wanting to be a part of it.

Please visit our Kickstarter site to view our video, get more info and to back the project.

Project Update

by Mindy Veissid

Since we launched 11 days ago, we raised $1,997 from 22 backers from across the US, Germany and Paris!

We have 38 days of funding left, with an outstanding balance of $13,603 meaning we need to raise at least $358 a day to make the project happen.

We need to keep the momentum going to create this new vibrant body of work, and to bring inspiration and first-hand creative knowledge to high school students across the US.

Please check out the project and if at all possible, become a backer. You can donate as little at $1, and you'll get great perks too!

Funding is on again

by Mindy Veissid

We came across an unfortunate obstacle that has brought both RA & I distress. With the funding platform we had every donation made was non-refundable meaning that if we did not meet our goal, they would keep all the raised money. RA & I naturally felt uncomfortable with this business model and have switched our funding platform to Kickstarter.

You can now help fund this project here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/197872824/photographers-squared-the-great-american-shoot-out

We have also added some new perks - you can now get private photography lessons from either of us!

Many thanks for your understanding and patience.

Temporary hold on funding

by Mindy Veissid

Something has been brought to our attention that we are unhappy with and so for the time being we are asking everyone who is thinking about donating not to do so until further notice. We will notify when funding can begin again. - Mindy & RA

Locations have been chosen!

by Mindy Veissid

We both wanted a sense of adventure with this project, and so we decided to randomly choose 4 locations. We also want our supporters and social media followers to participate so they (you!) will be choosing our 5th location.

We decided to pick a location on the north, south east and west coasts.

Below are our videos of how the locations were picked.

Enjoy!

What's this project about?

by Mindy Veissid

She shoots digitally in color. He shoots black and white film. Her camera of choice is a modern digital SLR. His is a forty-year old Hasselblad.  A study in working opposites, NYC photographers Mindy Veissid and RA Friedman have forged a creative collaboration, united by their love of photography, their desire to work with the craft at its most essential and their belief in inspiring others to explore photography's possibilities.

Invoking chance and courting serendipity as a way of markedly raising the photographic bar, they plan to embark on a series of immersive photographic adventures, traveling to random locales in order to share first hand their unique perspectives with aspiring high-school students while also taking time to capture America’s quirky, unexpected and unseen visual treasures.

Each using one camera and lens with no flash or tripod, they will jump through limited windows of time and restrict the number of their captures.  The strongly contrasting images, to be shared via a coffee table book and exhibition, will create an exciting new document and play off one another, illustrating the unexpected beauty of the American scene, the plurality of its perspectives, and the malleability of the camera’s gaze.
